Greetings Lion Nation
As the sun sets on yet another summer, I would like to welcome everyone back to another successful season here at Legacy Early College in 2020-2021.
First and foremost, on behalf of our entire athletics program, I hope that you and yours are safe and healthy during these times. As we try to return to normalcy, I ask that everyone continue to practice social distancing and adhere to all CDC health and safety guidelines. This school year is something we have never seen in our lifetime, but as a family, We Will Get Through It.
Though the sights and sounds of the new academic year are via zoom and google meet, I’m still excited and optimistic about working with everyone this year. This past June, to assure the safety of our scholar-athletes, coaches, and staff, we suspended all athletic workouts until we felt it was safe to return. After much discussion and communicating with the school administration, we decided to postpone our Fall Sports until Spring. Our goal is to reopen our athletic department on October 1, 2020, with several teams conditioning and others holding tryouts. Please be on the look for Return to Play Information at Legacy Early College.
We had several coaches that decided to move on, and we very grateful for their dedication to our scholar-athletes and school. We also welcome several new faces such as Alex Mills, a Class of 2014 graduate of then Legacy Charter School, returns home as our Middle School Boys’ Basketball Coach. Mark Crossland has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director/Gameday Coordinator, and we welcome Dorien Dickey as our Sports Information Director.
Last season, this athletic department served 127 scholar-athletes from grades 7th -12th grade, and we hope to increase. We also saw seven scholar-athletes sign National Letters of Intent from boys’ soccer to boys and girls’ basketball. Our goal is to continue to compete at the highest level while providing an opportunity for scholar-athletes to obtain athletic scholarships.
Between the Pandemic and everything we are facing in today’s society, both are much greater than sports, but we do realize our scholar-athletes need an outlet from both. We want our scholar-athletes and any other scholar to know as an athletic department, we are here to support and listen in anyway.
We are very grateful for our school leaders, coaches, and staff as they have dedicated themselves since March to assure that our scholars here at Legacy Early College receive the very best. That’s why I’m proud to be a Legacy Lion because we set the Legacy Standard every day. If we can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time via our emails. We wish everyone the best, and we hope you stay safe. We can’t wait to see and hear everyone in the stands cheering our Lions on to victory.
